Black Hole Winds

چکیده
We show that black holes accreting at or above the Eddington rate probably produce winds which are optically thick in the continuum, whether in quasars or X–ray bina-ries. The photospheric radius and outflow speed are proportional to ˙ M 2 out and ˙ M −1 out respectively, where ˙ M out is the mass outflow rate. The outflow momentum rate is always of order L Edd /c. Blackbody emission from these winds may provide the big blue bump in some quasars and AGN, as well as ultrasoft X–ray components in ULXs.

Continuum Acceleration of Black Hole Winds
Motivated by recent observations of high-velocity, highly ionized winds in several QSOs, models of purely continuum-driven winds launched from ∼ 200 GMBH/c2 are presented. Launching conditions are investigated, as well as the observational signatures for a variety of initial conditions and illuminating continua. While we verify that continuum-driven, highly-ionized outflows reach the observed v...
متن کاملBlack Hole Magnetospheres around Thin Disks Driving Inward and Outward Winds
We construct a simple model for stationary, axisymmetric black-hole magnetospheres, in which the poloidal magnetic field is generated by a toroidal electric current in a thin disk with the inner edge, by solving the vacuum Maxwell equations in Schwarzschild background. In this work, to obtain a concise analytical form of the magnetic stream function, we use the approximation that the inner edge...
متن کاملSolutions of Two Dimensional Viscous Accretion and Winds In Kerr Black Hole Geometry
We extend our previous studies of shock waves and shock-free solutions in thin accretion and winds in pseudo-Newtonian geometry to the case when the flow is two-dimensional and around a Kerr black hole. We present equations for fully general relativistic viscous transonic flows and classify the parameter space according to whether or not shocks form in an inviscid flow. We discuss the behaviors...
متن کاملUnderstanding Galactic Black Hole Candidate Grs 1915+105
We interpret observed features of the black hole candidate GRS1915+105 in the light of the advective flow paradigm. The light curve of this black hole is seen to be of four classes, Soft, Hard, Semi-Soft and Intermediate. Each class can display more than one type of light curve making altogether twelve or more types of light curves. In each type, the mode of accretion may be one or more of thre...
متن کاملDirect Feeding of the Black Hole at the Galactic Center with Radial Gas Streams from Close-In Stellar Winds
We show that the recently-discovered orbits of massive stars with closest approach of ∼ 10 Schwarzschild radii from Sgr A* , allow winds from these stars to provide the required mass deposition rate near the black hole horizon. The observed luminosity of Sgr A* does not require viscous transport of angular momentum, as long as the total wind mass loss rate reaches ∼ 10M⊙ yr −1 from the close-in...
